With your help I can advance against a troop, with my God I can scale a wall. 2 Samuel 22:30
2 Samuel 23 acknowledges some notorious warriors from king David’s army. Josheb-Basshebeth was the chief of three famous men. He was known for killing eight hundred men in one fight. Eleazar, another one of the three, stood his ground and kept fighting the Philistines even though the army of Israel retreated. The Lord gave him victory over the Philistines, and the army did not return to the battlefield accept to plunder the dead. Shammah was the third warrior. The Philistines united on a field and the Israeli troups fled from them. “But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the Lord brought about a great victory” (2Samuel 23:12).
God has called us to live in a land of promise. It is a land of spiritual freedom, where peace, love, and joy are experienced everyday. It is a land of purpose to give our lives to lead others to experience this freedom. The enemy will fight us for that land. We have to stand our ground. Sometimes we stand alone, but God never leaves us. We can persevere and see him bring about a great victory. The battle is the Lord’s.
Lord please help us to hold our ground when the enemy encloses around us, even when others retreat and give up the battle. Help us to stand with our feet planted firm on your Word. Help us to fight the good fight and claim the inheritance you have set before us. Make us fearless! With your help we can advance against a troop, with our God we can overcome any obstacle! Thank you for giving us strength for the battle.
