The great commission is to go into all the world and make disciples. This was Jesus command for the disciples, and I believe it is for all who follow Christ. If we truly believe Christ died to save us from spiritual death and an eternity in Hell, how can we not be passionate about answering the call to advance the gospel?Yet so often we transfer the responsiblity to those who are “called to ministry”. The denomination I grew up in often had alter calls for those who felt they were “called into ministry”. Everyone Jesus saves is called into ministry!! Is is not for an arrogant elect group of people, who think they are better than everyone else. Typically the ones we consider “called” are pastors or missionaries (anyone who’s been to seminary). However, they are not the only ones who are called.

We justify dodging our responsibility because we pay tithes to support our pastors, and maybe even give to missions. Some of us even serve in our churches. But our ministry is not limited to the time we spend in church… we are called to reach the world. Christianity is a lifestyle, not a religion.

The same Holy Spirit that dwells in them lives in us. We may not be called to speak in front of a congregation each week, or move to Africa. But we are called to change the world one life at a time. If every believer got a hold of this vision the out come would be mind boggling. It’s the power of exponential numbers. Our mission field is our job, gym, neighborhood, mom’s group, team mates, and so on. Each of us has been given spiritual gifts which we can use to reach people. We are the light of the world.
